5 Dog Friendly Winter Resorts

Dropping temperatures combined with snowfall means less pup-friendly traveling, right? Quite the opposite. If your pup lives for snow runs and snuggle sessions by the fireplace, there is a dog-friendly resort waiting for them. Here are five of my favorite dog friendly resorts for the winter.

1. The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch, Avon, Colorado

The Ritz-Carlton in Avon, Colorado screams Rocky Mountain luxury for both you and your pooch. While you are out skiing or snowboarding, your dog doesn’t simply sit in a dog-friendly hotel room; he is treated like the god he is. The resort offers doggy room service that is fitted to your dog’s dietary and age-related needs. They also offer in-room massages for your dog. In. Room. Dog. Massages.

2. Lake Placid Lodge, Adirondacks, New York

While this lodge does not offer the luxurious in-room pet massages, it is still pretty plush. If you want to spend some time in a cabin overlooking an idyllic mountain setting with your pup, this is the place to go. While you are not in your private cabin, you are required to have your dog crated (for the safety of the staff), but you are allowed to bring your pup with you to almost every corner of the resort or one of the many hiking trails.

3. Snow King Hotel, Jackson Hole, Wyoming

What better winter destination than a resort called “Snow King”? The Jackson Hole hotel boasts lots of fun activities for both two and four-legged friends. When you aren’t taking your pup on one of the many hiking trails, he is welcome to join you for dinner at the hotel’s basecamp inspired restaurant, Hayden’s Post. Go ahead, give Fido a tiny piece of Filet Mignon from the table.

4. Mountain Top Inn and Resort, Chittenden, Vermont

As self-proclaimed pet lovers, Mountain Top Inn and Resort offers a warm welcome to you and your dog in one of four deluxe cabins or select other rentals. When you arrive at the 350 acre resort complete with scenic forested mountain view, your dog will have a treat waiting for them made by Vermont company Good Dog! Your pup can join you on select cross country skiing trails and around the exterior elements of the resort, as long as they are leashed.

5. The Muse, New York, New York

OK, so maybe you and your pup’s idea of a glamorous winter getaway involves less of that whole nature thing and more of that big-city-covered-in-snow-and-lights idea. Enter The Muse in New York, New York. Most resorts (including all of the ones previously listed) have a fee for having a pup stay with you. The Muse loves pets so much that they can stay with you at no extra fee. Yes, you read that right. The hotel is right near Canine Court, Manhatten’s only doggie playground, which boasts 15,000 enclosed square feet of grassy (or snowy) fields, obstacle courses, and more. Once your dog is tuckered out from all of that exercise, schedule them an acupuncture appointment. They worked hard and totally deserve it.

Traveling with pets can be a bit anxiety-inducing, no doubt. All of the stress will be completely worth it once you get to relax with your pup, especially if it is at one of these luxe resorts.
