Budweiser’s “Lost Dog” Super Bowl commercial ranks number one

Despite winning back-to-back Super Bowls in the past, the Seattle Seahawks couldn’t pull it off this year. However, the big winner for Super Bowl XLIX commercials was the Anheuser-Busch Budweiser “Lost Dog” commercial.

USA Today’s Ad Meter, which ranks Super Bowl advertisements, had close to 7,000 consumers voting this year on the best commercial during the game. Hands down, it was the Budweiser puppy commercial. A record 61 commercials aired during the game and cost advertisers $4.5 million per 30-seconds.

The Budweiser puppy commercial, “Lost Dog,” featured a dog who gets lost and finds his way back home. At the climax, he was saved from a wolf by his pals, the famous Budweiser Clydesdales.

The Budweiser Clydesdales won the best commercial at last year’s Super Bowl, with “Puppy Love.” Brian Perkins, vice president of Budweiser, tells USA Today this year’s commercial was a sort of sequel to last years: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

The advertisement tugged at many viewers’ heartstrings. Ad Meter panelist Kelly VonDrehle tells USA Today, “I have my own little dog, and seeing the Clydesdales save that sweet, precious little angel brought a slight tear to my eye.”

Approximately 110 million viewers watched the commercial. Many who didn’t tune in for the game, tuned in for the commercials, which aired on NBC.

Many people commented they liked the optimism of the Budweiser commercial, and found it to be the anti-GoDaddy “Journey Home” commercial, which was pulled because of the outcry from many who saw it before the big game.
