Miley Cyrus mourns the death of her dog

Dog lovers all over the world are sending “Party in the U.S.A.” singer and former Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus words of support today after learning that Cyrus’s dog Lila has passed away.

Lila, a MalteseYorkshire Terrier mix, had recently been hospitalized at a veterinary clinic for undisclosed reasons. The little pooch was young at the time of her passing, having just turned 2-years-old last month.

Heartbroken after her loss, Cyrus took to her Twitter account, where she told her nearly 11 million fans the tragic update on Lila.

“I’ve never been so hurt in my life,” Cyrus tweeted Tuesday morning. “My heart has never been so broken…Lila my sweet baby girl has passed away.”

Cyrus has long been known as a passionate animal lover who often makes news for rescuing or adopting dogs. In May of this year Cyrus adopted a Beagle mix who’d been found in a box at Walmart. She and fiancé Liam Hemsworth named him Happy.

Black and white pup Mary Jane joined Cyrus’s family that same month, and Penny Lane, a small Terrier mix named for the famous Beatles song, is a recent addition; Cyrus adopted the little pup from Saving SPOT! Dog Rescue in Los Angeles only a few weeks ago.

Bulldog Ziggy, given to Cyrus as a gift from Hemsworth, and Alaskan Klee Kai Floyd round out Cyrus’s pack of furry friends. The star is sure to need all that canine energy around her during her time of grief.

After Lila’s death, Cyrus has decided to take a break from the spotlight.

“Broken. Gonna go MIA for a bit. Need some healing time,” she tweeted shortly after announcing her sad news. Cyrus also expressed gratitude for her fans’ messages of encouragement.

“Thank you to everyone who has sent love my way,” the singer-actress tweeted. “I need it.”
