A Las Vegas Italian restaurant found a unique way to persuade people to adopt dogs from local rescue shelters. 8NewsNow reports that Stallone’s Italian Eatery in south Las Vegas has started posting photos of adoptable dogs on their pizza boxes.

From Fish Tanks to Dogs on Pizza

According to them, the idea was the result of a collaboration with Pawtastic Friends. Also based in Las Vegas, the nonprofit provides training and enrichment to local shelter dogs.

One interesting part of this particular restaurant: Stallone’s owner is a former television star. In a past life, Brett Raymer hosted the Animal Planet series “Tanked”. In that series, Raymer and co-host Wayde King built outlandish tanks and aquariums for hotels, casinos, and celebrities. It seems that the show was successful.

Shortly after the show came to a close, Raymer found himself in Las Vegas cooking up his next business venture. A serendipitous encounter with a fellow New Yorker brought the spark of inspiration needed to create Stallone’s, which opened earlier this year according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

As to the flyers, it seems Raymer simply wants to help these dogs. But also, he wants to bring a smile to people’s faces. He says, “It’s great ’cause they get to see a flier with all these dogs on it. We just want to bring awareness to the community and help Pawtastic Friends get these dogs adopted”.

Canine COVID-19 Struggles

Admittedly, it’s great to see local businesses helping dogs get into new forever homes. Two years ago, the COVID-19 pandemic created a rush of people working from home who wanted dogs. Unfortunately, recent cost of living increases forced many new dog parents to abandon their pets or surrender them to shelters. Therefore, rescue dogs are overwhelming shelters around the country.

Fortunately, creative minds like Raymer’s are helping connect dogs with loving foster homes and people looking for a new furry family member.
