A very odd thing happened in Wales over the weekend. 127 dogs and their parents gathered to watch 101 Dalmatians in a field in Worcester. The group set a new world record for ‘Most Dogs at a Movie’.

For posterity’s sake, the previous record was 120 dogs at a 2019 screening of The Secret Life of Pets 2 in Brazil.

For the Record

Rachel Marie, the owner of a local dog boarding service, organized the event. Speaking to Wales Online, Rachel says, “I feel a little bit overwhelmed. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet, I can’t quite believe I pulled it off.”

Unfortunately, the event did face obstacles due to the untimely passing of Queen Elizabeth. As a result, Rachel says many people didn’t show up.

“But,” she says, “the Queen obviously loved her dogs and that’s why I still wanted the event to go ahead. I’m sure the number would have been a lot higher but I couldn’t delay it anymore and the important thing is that we broke the record.”

Watching Movies and Raising Money

Admittedly, Rachel says many of her own clients attended the event. Regardless, she says, “there was a huge collection of dogs I didn’t know.” Initially, Rachel was worried they wouldn’t have enough dogs to break the record. As the screening approached, the official count sat at 117. The group improvised to gather the last few dogs they needed. “Some people turned up late and we got a few dog walkers who were passing by that we grabbed and welcomed with open arms.”

Then, the official Guinness World Records representative stated that all dogs present had to be over one year old. Fortunately, this was the case, and at 3 P.M. a new world record was announced—127 dogs at one movie.

Besides being a fun, relaxing afternoon for the dogs and their parents, the event also helped local charities. Rachel raised £542 for the Amicii Dog Rescue. All in all, world record or not, a group of dog lovers—and their dogs— enjoyed a nice afternoon together.
