Bath Cats and Dogs Home, a shelter in Bath, United Kingdom, is the home of Britain’s Loneliest Dog.
Sue, a lurcher dog, has been with the shelter for four years, and they’re issuing a plea to find her a suitable home for her needs.
People Magazine wrote that the shelter’s staff have been “perplexed” about Sue’s difficulty in finding a home, as she’s very sweet and affectionate. But, however, she does need a suitable and experienced parent due to minor behavioral challenges.
Sue Seems Like A Sweetheart
When Sue first arrived at Bath Cats and Dogs in 2017, she was just a puppy.
Briefly, in 2018, she was adopted but was then returned, and the shelter has struggled to find her a suitable home since then. This poor pup has spent her entire life within a shelter.
Shelter staff say that Sue is very sweet, and her challenges are entirely manageable for the right parent. She needs someone caring, with patience, and the ability to properly focus on specific kinds of training.
A New Year Goal For Sue
Before the end of the year, Bath Cats and Dogs Home is determined to find Sue the right family.
“All of our animal care team love her. She’s really people-focused, she loves toys, and she’s very social. She won’t sit in a corner and not do a lot,” the shelter’s spokesperson, Vanessa Langford, advocated.
“The other really nice thing about her is that she’s clever. She loves learning because it’s human interaction,” she goes on to say. “She definitely has some challenging behaviors, so she will need an experienced owner, but it’s sad because she’s such a sweet dog.”
Like many lurchers, Sue must wear a muzzle while out walking and can’t stay in a home with children or other animals. This has been the biggest challenge. But with a parent experienced with this type of dog, and a high fence, Sue could thrive.
Britain’s Loneliest Dog Has Amazing Advocates
This particular shelter seems very well-aware of Sue’s needs and is being diligent in the home they find for Sue. They know putting her through multiple homes will only add issues.
“We’ve had loads of people call in wanting to give her a home. But there’s no point calling if you’ve got children or other dogs,” Langford said.
“People are being really lovely and want her, but we can’t take that risk of her getting over-excited with another dog or child; that way, it wouldn’t be her fault.”
Due to Sue’s special requirements, the shelter’s application process is strict but necessary. They just know that they’ll find the right family for Sue, and that it’s worth the wait and the work.
“The last thing we want is her coming back again. She has a great home here, but we know that she would be much happier with someone elsewhere she can chill out,” Langford added.
“She is an affectionate girl and loves a cuddle on the sofa just as much as she loves playing with her toys.”
