Human Meets Shelter Dog Still Searching for the Family Who Left Him & Makes the Unthinkable Happen

A few hours after being surrendered, Rocky was still doing the one thing no one at the shelter could help him with — looking for his family. The Doberman had been taken outside for a little fresh air, but instead of enjoying the break, he searched for the people who had left him behind.

A volunteer, @sharing.lov, promised to share his story and help him find a new home. What happened next was far beyond anything she expected: one shelter dog, one determined human, and a single post that reached someone willing to drive all the way from New Jersey to Atlanta for Rocky.

The first part of the video is from the earlier clip that went viral. In it, Rocky is lying in his kennel, barely paying attention to the toys around him. His family had surrendered him only hours earlier, and the volunteer who met him that day could tell he was still looking for them.

She took him outside, hoping some fresh air might lift his spirits, but Rocky wasn’t interested. He spent the time searching for the family he had just lost. But after the volunteer posted Rocky’s video, a man emailed her to say he was already driving from New Jersey to Atlanta.

He had roughly 800 miles ahead of him and wanted to reach the shelter first thing in the morning. Thirteen hours later, he was there, carrying a new leash, collar, and bed for Rocky.

In the next scene, the volunteer enters Rocky’s kennel again, this time with an “I’ve been adopted” sticker in hand. He comes out of his enclosure, sniffs, and seems curious about what is happening. Once outside, the same dog who had been looking lost the day before is suddenly bouncing around with excitement.

Soon, Rocky walks through the shelter doors for the last time. The pup and his new dad head towards the car. We see Rocky keep going back to him throughout the walk. A goodbye kiss from the volunteer comes next, followed by Rocky’s freedom ride.

His new dad later sent a video of him happily looking out over an open field. No wonder the clip has more than 25,000 likes. For this shelter dog, one shared video reached the right human at exactly the right time.
