Shelter Dog Won’t Even Blink Inside Kennel, but Turns Into a Goofball Once She’s Outside

Shelter dogs do not always get the chance to show who they really are while spending most of their time in a kennel. The stress and confinement can cause an otherwise playful dog to become quiet, making its personality go unnoticed. One video is giving viewers a different look at Bailey, a shelter dog who seems to transform as soon as she gets outside.

Shelter dog shows her real personality outside kennel walls

A video shared by @sashatailstx shows Bailey looking unusually withdrawn while sitting inside her kennel. The two-year-old Pit Bull appears so still and downcast behind the kennel doors that the video notes she will not even blink. But the moment Bailey is outside, that gloomy expression gives way to a much more playful personality.

Bailey quickly gets involved in playtime with her favorite stuffed toy. In fact, she becomes energetic and silly as she enjoys the opportunity to be outside. The sudden change is striking, particularly because the dog seen happily playing with her toy seems almost like a completely different dog from the one sitting quietly inside the kennel.

According to the post, “Bailey has been at the shelter since January” and has been waiting months for a family to give her a home. Her caregivers describe her as “silly, affectionate, and full of personality,” qualities that become much easier to see when she gets the chance to interact and play.

Bailey is also reportedly very affectionate with people. She apparently believes she is a lap dog and loves staying close to the people around her. Once she has finished playing with her favorite stuffed toy, she is happy to settle down beside someone and enjoy some attention and cuddles.

Despite all of this, Bailey continues to wait for someone to choose her. Her time outside the kennel suggests that there is far more to her than the quiet dog visitors may see when they pass her enclosure. Bailey, listed as ID #A287592, is currently at the Garland Animal Shelter & Adoption Center in Garland, Texas.
