A rescue can give an abandoned animal a second chance, but it cannot always undo the damage caused by neglect. That has become painfully clear for Otto and Rosco, two young dogs rescued after being left alone for days in horrific conditions.

A video shared by @nikotheminigolden on Instagram captures the emotional rescue of two dogs who had been left alone for four days inside a troubled home. Rescuer Hannah Morgan, who narrates the footage, said she and her husband drove four hours after learning about the dogs and the heartbreaking situation they were facing.

The pair had allegedly been left without food or water during those four days. Their condition had deteriorated to the point that they faced the possibility of being euthanized. Unable to accept that outcome, the couple decided to step in and rescue them.

Clips from the rescue show Otto and Rosco looking visibly malnourished and frightened when they were found. Despite the circumstances they had endured, the woman said both dogs remained incredibly gentle. She described them as “so sweet, so incredibly sweet.”

Once the dogs were brought home, their rescuers began providing the basic care they had gone without. The video shows Otto and Rosco receiving baths and being given attention in a safe environment. But as they settled into their new surroundings, the woman noticed something concerning about their eyes.

Their eyes had begun to appear gray and cloudy, prompting the rescuers to take both dogs to a veterinarian. The examination revealed that Otto and Rosco had juvenile cataracts. The woman said their veterinarian believed the condition could be connected to the circumstances in which the dogs had been living.

The diagnosis was particularly concerning because both dogs are believed to be only about one year old. Without surgery, they could eventually lose their eyesight completely. Their rescuers are now trying to raise enough money to give them the treatment they need.

In a heartwarming update, the owners confirmed in their GoFundMe bio that they have reached their initial $35,000 fundraising goal and have had Rosco and Otto in their care for around four months. They thanked everyone who donated or sent their kind wishes and support.

However, with Rosco potentially facing diabetes and the furry duo requiring additional medical care, the fundraising target has since been increased to $40,000. Those who would like to help can donate and support Rosco and Otto on their journey to better health.

After surviving grim conditions, Otto and Rosco now have a safe home and people determined to give them a better future. The woman said her biggest hope is simply for the dogs to be able to see the life they have finally been given.
