Shelter Dog Can’t Wait To See Human Again, but There’s a Heartbreaking Reason

The goodbye at Dojo’s kennel sounds like a routine one, but his response makes it clear he has heard it many times before. In the video shared by @humanesocietycentralaz, a volunteer waves and says, “Bye Dojo! See you tomorrow,” only for the 7-year-old shelter dog to bounce up, wag his tail, and seemingly answer, “Of course you will!” He has been at the Humane Society of Central Arizona since August 31, 2022. At this point, tomorrow is something Dojo knows very well. What he is still waiting for is the day someone comes back for good.

The video opens to show Dojo sitting behind his kennel door as the volunteer says goodbye. He tells the dog that he will see him tomorrow. The moment he realizes he is leaving, his tail starts wagging, and his whole body seems to bounce in place. He opens and closes his mouth while looking toward her, and the text translates his expression into this response: “Of course you will! I have been here since 8/31/2022.”

That’s when you realise the gravity of this sweet pup’s patience. According to the Humane Society of Central Arizona, Dojo is a 7-year-old American Bulldog mix. His profile describes him as laid-back and easygoing, with a love for lounging, walks, car rides, and cuddles. He is also described as a giant softie who wants a home of his own.

He would need to be the only pet in the house, though. His profile says he is not a match for dogs or cats. That may narrow his options, but it does not change the fact that he still has plenty of affection to give. While other dogs bark around him in the shelter, Dojo keeps his attention on the volunteer in front of him. He seems genuinely pleased just to have someone talking to him.

The video has picked up more than 1,000 likes, with viewers already hoping his next chapter starts soon. Most of them wrote that they were praying he finds a home. For a shelter dog who has spent so long watching people come and go, the sweetest goodbye would be the one followed by a drive home.
