Found Injured on the Street, Shelter Dog Had a Family Once, but They Didn’t Want Him Back

A heartbreaking Instagram video tells the story of Troy, a 4-year-old shelter dog from Miami who is still waiting for a second chance. Once part of a family, Troy was found injured on the street a year ago.

Although shelter staff located his owners, they chose not to take him back, leaving him to begin life in a kennel. Since then, he has patiently waited for a loving home, often sitting by the door and gazing outside in the hope that someone will finally choose him.

Shelter dog’s family didn’t want him back — now his days look like this in a kennel

In a heartbreaking Instagram video, a shelter dog named Troy continues to wait for a family after his former owners chose not to take him back. The clip shows the gentle pup sitting quietly in his kennel, watching people pass by. The caption reads, “Since then, the calmest, kindest, most dignified gentleman has sat quietly in a kennel, watching other families walk by him.”

According to a shelter volunteer, Troy was found injured on the streets of Miami and taken to a local shelter, where “his microchip was scanned.” When staff contacted his family, they responded, “Keep him, we don’t want him anymore.” Ever since, Troy has remained at the shelter, patiently waiting for a second chance while continuing to show his calm, gentle nature.

The caption added, “He never barks [or] jumps. He just waits for someone to notice his broken heart.” It also describes Troy as a gentle, affectionate dog who loves to cuddle, remains calm, and knows basic commands.

He has “no prey drive noted,” “enjoys relaxing by your side,” and is “cautious but friendly with dogs & cats.” While Troy can be a little shy around new people, he gradually opens up and builds trust once he feels comfortable.

Meanwhile, viewers have showered Troy with love in the comment section. A user commented, “Omg he’s beautiful. I pray someone saves him.” Moreover, the Instagram post has garnered over 6K likes as of this writing.
