Golden Retriever & Toddler Are Inseparable Now but They Were Once Babies Growing up Together

It’s one thing to see a child and a dog become best friends; it’s another to realize they have been together since they were both babies. A family on Instagram shared a heartwarming montage of their toddler, Rhett, and Golden Retriever, Bear, showing just how much they have grown over the past few years. Looking back at old footage, it’s clear the pair have never really known life without each other.

The video, shared by @hdbrosriley, follows Rhett and the family’s Golden Retriever, Bear, whose lives have unfolded side by side. It begins with present-day footage of the pair, now 3 and 2 years old, happily running down a neighborhood street together before later curling up for a nap.

Across the screen, text reads, “They may be 3 and 2 now… But they were once,” hinting that viewers are about to take a trip back in time. The video then cuts to a montage of much earlier memories, when Rhett was just 9 months old, and Bear was only 8 weeks old. Those clips capture the beginning of a friendship that has existed for nearly their entire lives.

Among the sweetest moments is their first introduction, with each parent holding one of the babies as they meet. From there, the montage shows the pair sharing everyday moments like playing together around the house, sitting close to one another, and snuggling as they grew more comfortable together.

Because they were both so young, neither Rhett nor Bear had really experienced life without the other. As the video progresses, they reach milestones together, gradually growing from babies into inseparable companions.
