There are plenty of ways to keep a little baby entertained, but apparently, one Golden Retriever has decided that formal ball throw lessons are the answer. In a charming video shared by @talesoftoffee1, Toffee takes it upon herself to teach a toddler named Phoebe the joys of a good game of fetch. Nobody assigned her the job. Nobody asked for her help. Yet there she is, patient as ever, waiting for her student to figure things out. The result is both adorable and hilarious.
Golden Retriever waits patiently while little baby learns to throw the ball, then fetches it
The lesson begins right by the backyard door. Pheobe is sitting on the floor inside, while Toffee waits outside with a clear plan in mind. This specific breed possesses a natural, deep-rooted instinct to retrieve objects and please their family. So the Golden Retriever gently drops a ball right at the little baby’s feet. The text on the screen explains that no one actually asked her to coach. But three sessions in, she officially has a star pupil.
Phoebe picks up the ball with her wobbly toddler hands while Toffee stands perfectly still without rushing her. Then the infant lifts both arms and lets them drop outside. The ball rolls down the steps, and Toffee immediately pounces and bolts after it. She quickly brings it right back to the doorway. Next, she places it near the infant’s foot again, wagging her tail as she waits. The tiny student grabs it and drops it outside again seamlessly.
This game makes the toddler so happy that she starts tapping her hands against the doorframe in pure excitement. Her owner noted online that Toffee takes her role very seriously and has never been prouder. Later, the Golden Retriever sits down in front of the little baby and lets the ball roll out of her mouth. Both of them just watch it roll away together before Toffee finally gets up to go grab it.
The cute training session quickly picked up over 7.4k likes from delighted viewers online. One person commented that it is the perfect team. Toddlers love throwing things, while dogs love bringing them back. Another user joked that the pup has the child trained well. And someone else said, Toffee is going to teach the baby to give her treats next.
