‘Surrendered’ Shelter Dog Sits in Kennel, Hoping Someone Will Take Him Home

If you’ve ever searched for pet-friendly housing, you know how difficult the process can be. Restrictions on certain breeds, size limits, and no-pet policies continue to create challenges for many renters. Unfortunately, those barriers sometimes leave owners with no choice but to surrender beloved companions to local shelters. A recent video shared by shelter volunteer @rita_earl_blackwell brings attention to one of those dogs, a Blue Heeler named Stitch who is hoping to find a new home.

Shelter dog knows heartbreak from being ‘surrendered’ hopes to be adopted one day

Stitch may only be 5 years old, but according to the volunteer who featured him in the video, he carries himself like a much older dog. Unlike younger pups who often bounce around with endless energy, Stitch appears calm, reserved, and content simply being near people.

The dog’s journey to the shelter began after his owner was forced to surrender him because of landlord issues. While the decision might not have been made lightly, it left Stitch searching for a new place to call home.

The video begins with Stitch sitting quietly in his kennel. Later, viewers see him outside with the volunteer, enjoying a few moments of attention and affection. As she pets him, Stitch appears relaxed and trusting, showing a softer side that may not be immediately visible from behind kennel doors.

The volunteer describes him as the kind of dog who could benefit from a little extra “TLC” from future adopters. Though he may seem subdued, his gentle temperament could make him an ideal companion for someone looking for a loyal and easygoing pet.

According to the caption accompanying the video, Stitch initially arrived at the Palmdale shelter before being transferred to the Lancaster Animal Care Center in Los Angeles, California. He is currently available for adoption, and shelter advocates are hoping increased visibility will help him find a family.

Viewers quickly rallied around the dog in the comments section. One commenter described him as “Such a sweet little heeler with a little scruffiness.” Another wrote, “Sharing this poor dog so he can be seen and saved. He does look older.” Others expressed hope for his future. “I hope someone can step in and care for and love him to health!!!” one person commented.
