Monte the Golden Retriever has a tell for when something forbidden happens — his tippy toes. A sweet video from @bigfluffytales on Instagram begins with the 1-year-old Monte standing still a few feet from his mom, looking as innocent as one can be. His mom’s voice, patient and warm, fills the room as she asks him, “Are you organizing? Monte? Are you rearranging rugs? Is there something in your mouth?” — and through it all, all Monte does is stare back, blank as a statue. It is as though he is not entirely sure how to confess what is going on.
Golden Retriever makes Tippy Toe moves to show owner what’s in his mouth
After his mom asks him if there was something in his mouth, the Golden Retriever starts his tippy toes. One careful step at a time, he inches toward her while she asks, “Are you gonna show me? Oh, you have something to show me?” His puppy eyes and body language scream internal conflict — he knows he should not have it, but he also knows he can bring it to her — and so when he finally reaches her, he lets mom gently open his jaw and discover a Q-tip.
She tells the dog, “Oh, oh, you’re not supposed to have it. Thank you for showing me,” pulling it free. But all’s well that ends well, and mom tells the Golden Retriever puppy, “Monty, that’s icky. Thank you for showing me. Good boy,” as he keeps staring at her.
Viewers in the comment section were both amused and touched. One viewer said, “VERY good boy! Not many would turn themselves into the authorities for getting into something they shouldn’t.” Meanwhile, another imagined Monte’s inner monologue, writing, “Absolutely nothing to see here. No reason to be suspicious.” Meanwhile, a third viewer explained, “He knows it might be dangerous but the temptation took over so he let you help him.”
In the end, the Golden Retriever surrendered his “icky” treasure and got praised for his tippy toes. His big, soft eyes held no real guilt, just the weight of a little secret he decided to share — and honestly, that is the charm of a Golden Retriever.
