Waking up a grumpy three-year-old from a deep nap is a risky mission that usually requires some backup. But a family in New Jersey deployed their affectionate Golden Retriever to rouse a sleeping toddler in a viral video. The sweet bedroom interaction was captured and posted on their Instagram page, @skylars.the.limit.
We learn via the in-video captions that little Shalom dislikes being woken up from his naps, so his parents hoped a furry best friend would sweeten the deal. However, the cute pup had a completely different plan for the afternoon.
Golden Retriever cozies with sleeping toddler for a nap instead of waking him up
The clip opens with Skylar walking carefully into the bedroom while mom films the whole thing. Dad sits nearby in a rocking chair, holding a new baby, whispering to keep the vibe entirely calm. Skylar approaches the bed, wagging her tail. She even sticks her nose through the wooden rails to sniff her buddy.
Seeing that her distant sniffs are not working, the dog then climbs right onto the mattress. The in-video text jokingly switches to her point of view with, “Hey bro, wakey wakey,” while she gently licks his nose a few times. Shalom wiggles a little but never actually opens his eyes. Goldens are famously gentle and comfort-loving, which shows when she assesses the situation.
Realizing the mission is a total lost cause, the pup simply spins around and curls up at the foot of the bed. This hilarious plot twist makes both parents laugh out loud. Dad mentions that the boy will love watching this video when he wakes up. Meanwhile, mom tries again, asking the Golden Retriever to nudge the sleepy toddler in the video, but the pup is already halfway to dreamland herself.
The clip pulled in a solid 82.7k likes. In the caption, the owner asks, “Would you like to wake up to this kind of alarm clock?” Commenters are obsessed, joking that the pup instantly chose a cozy nap spot over playtime. Skylar clearly knows that a good nap is far too valuable to pass up.
