Every pet owner has at least one rule that quietly disappears over time. Usually, it starts with “absolutely no dogs on the couch,” and then suddenly the dog owns the entire living room. That is pretty much what happened with Rico, whose hilarious video on @rico_themal has people laughing. This Belgian Malinois claims every single square inch of the cushions as if that was always the plan. And honestly, by the end of the clip, even his humans seem fully aware that the couch stopped belonging to them a long time ago.

The clip kicks off with a scene that completely contradicts mom’s original intentions. Rico is treating the whole thing like an obstacle course. The text on the screen reminds everyone of the time mom said there was no way this dog would be allowed on the couch. The Malinois responds by doing a massive full-body shake while standing right on the couch’s seat.
His tail is wagging at full speed, and then, the dog starts performing 360-degree spins while stomping all over the throw pillows. Being a Belgian Malinois, he has more than enough athletic ability to cover the entire sofa in seconds. However, Rico moves his body in an odd wave-like motion before trying to settle into a spot.
Midway through sitting down, he changes his mind because the comfort level isn’t quite right yet. He gets back up and takes big steps forward and backward across the cushions. This dog is extremely thorough when it comes to testing out the softest parts of the couch.
Finally, after a few more spins and another lap of the furniture, he finds his spot. Rico stomps over a few more cushions and plops down for a serious lie-down. His mom starts laughing while filming the whole dramatic process. She even pans the camera to show dad, who is also smiling at the chaotic scene.
Lots of people on Instagram find the whole situation very relatable. His owner simply wrote that he’s worth it. It is safe to say that the house rules have officially been updated for good.
