Video shows abandoned and scared shelter dog learning to live inside a house

This formerly abandoned shelter dog is learning how houses work in a video from his new foster home. And Roman is definitely finding his way with some help from his foster mom, @landenmonica. He spent his first few days home glued to his new human since everything inside the house felt like a strange mystery to him. He even started burying his toys in the backyard because he wasn’t sure they were permanent. This is a pretty common trait among resilient rescues who have lived hard lives.

Roman was initially very confused by the modern world. The former shelter dog was terrified of the TV, and his foster mom couldn’t turn it on for days. Even the cartoon Bluey seemed threatening. Electric sounds like the vacuum and the hair dryer were also huge hurdles. Additionally, he had to learn how to walk up and down the stairs. It took so much patience to get him through those early moments.

Seeing him discover his own reflection in a mirror was also a massive milestone for him. The outdoor world felt just as scary as the indoors at first. He was incredibly paranoid on walks and stayed on high alert as he thought someone might attack him at any second. His tail stayed tucked between his legs for a long time. But his mom didn’t give up on him.

She actually slept on the couch for 10 straight days because he needed to be held to fall asleep. That kind of devotion is what finally helped him realize he was safe. Life looks completely different for this pup now. He finally realized he could relax and have some fun.

Now, he jumps on the sofa and runs around with his foster sibling, Roxy. He is even responding to training and loves car rides. Seeing him at the beach is the best part of the whole story. He finally knows what it feels like to be loved, and Roman is simply proof that every animal deserves a second chance at happiness.
