That’s exactly the scene in an adorable Instagram video from @yournewfriendfranklin, where a Bernese Mountain Dog named Franklin sits outside his mom’s closed door and cries while his mom is busy with work, and the on-screen caption spells the scene out with, “Heard crying outside my door.”

When Franklin’s mom ditches work and opens the door in the video, she finds the Bernese Mountain Dog sitting on the floor right outside. He stares up at her with puppy eyes as if asking her to stop everything and pay attention to him, and that is what she does as she answers him in a high-pitched baby voice. In the video, the dog mom tells Franklin, “Hi, I have to finish work, okay? Can you wait one more hour? Sorry. I love you.”
The video’s caption reads, “My heart,” and the comment section loved the interaction. One viewer wrote, “He’s just a baby,” while another added, “Why door closed?! Franklin needs to see you at all times.” Meanwhile, one fellow Bernese Mountain Dog owner admitted Franklin is actually being polite, writing, “He’s being such a great boy! Bogey would have chewed up the corner baseboard!”
As dramatic as it seems, Franklin’s theatrics are actually normal dog behavior. Many dogs tend to form solid routines around their humans, and a closed door can feel like a sudden problem to solve. Besides, some dogs learn fast that whining can bring them attention or reassurance, so they keep trying the move that worked last time. In Franklin’s case, it definitely worked.
The dog in this video just wanted some love and his mom back in view, even if she was at work. Safe to say, he got the attention he needed.
