Shy Dog Spent Over 2 Years in Shelter, Finds Forever Home

An adorable dog who spent more than two years in a Florida shelter has finally found his forever home. He was first surrendered in 2022 and waited 802 days before he met his current pet parent, who will shower him with love and care. The canine had become one of the longest-staying ones in the Florida shelter before he was adopted.

Florida dog spends over 2 years in shelter due to ‘shy and reserved’ personality

On July 12, the Humane Society Naples first introduced Yogi through a post on its Instagram account. While he wasn’t the longest resident, the Pit Bull was one of the longer-stay dogs in the shelter. His former family surrendered him in 2022, and he had been with the Humane Society Naples ever since.

However, after being featured in a local news outlet, Yogi found a new home. The Pit Bull is about four years old and has a shy personality. The shelter noted in the Instagram post that he has “stranger danger,” which makes him more reserved than the rest when he first meets someone. However, this made it difficult for the pup to find a new home.

Yogi needed to be slowly introduced to new people, accounting for multiple visits from potential adopters. This often discouraged them from adopting him. However, his new owner was more than willing to have the patience to visit the canine several times. In a follow-up post, the shelter stated the pet parent “respected his pace and won him over.”

After waiting over two years in the shelter for someone to bring him home, the shy dog has finally found a loving, forever home. Before Yogi’s adoption, he also spent some time with the Humane Society Naples’ behavior team, per PEOPLE. In the post, the shelter also shared cute photos of the pup in his new home, smiling ear to ear and looking happy.
