What appears to be a run-of-the-mill home improvement TikTok video has left viewers reaching for the tissues. While showing off her handiwork, creator Shari Blivin explained how her renovation also acted as a tribute to her beloved Golden Retriever, who had passed away.
Golden Retriever TikTok video makes viewers cry
The video initially appears to follow the familiar format of a typical home improvement tutorial. The camera sweeps up a wooden staircase, revealing noticeable signs of “wear and tear,” as Blivin narrates the urgent need for refinishing. Among the worn steps, one stands out, displaying significant weathering.
However, the tone shifts unexpectedly when Blivin reveals the poignant backstory behind this specific step. It turns out that this particular step holds a special significance — it was the favorite spot of Max, her Golden Retriever, who passed away a year ago.
Subsequently, viewers see a fluffy white Golden Retriever resting on that particular step. Blivin mentions that it was his designated spot, and he would often choose to sleep there. He even took his last breath in that spot.
In Blivin’s words, “And last year, on this day, last year, in that very spot, he put his head on my lap and went to forever sleep.”
Blivin explained that while she painted all of the steps black, she couldn’t repaint her dog’s favorite step. Instead, in memory of Max, she added his name to that step. She says, “So now it’s forever his.”
Unsurprisingly, many viewers expressed how sad the video made them feel in the comment section. A TikTok user, sabinehedi, wrote, “I. Am. Sobbing. Uncontrollably.” Another user commented, “You better bring that step with you if you ever move ????.” This humorously highlights the emotional investment viewers have in the story, emphasizing the importance of the step as a symbol of love and remembrance.
