Irresistible toys

  • Kong
  • Buster Cube or Molecuball
  • Air Kong Squeaker Tennis Ball
  • Hide-A-Squirrel
  • Chuckit Ball Launcher
  • Dog Frisbee

Kong: Stuff this hollow chew toy with a mix of kibble and treats--cheese, peanut butter, wet food--and your dog can while away his time extracting the goodies, and staving off boredom and separation anxiety in the process.

Buster Cube or Molecuball: A sturdy, hollow tri-ball wonder that dispenses kibble when your dog rolls it--rollicking good entertainment for those long, dull hours while you're at work.

Air Kong Squeaker Tennis Ball: Your dog can make sweet music while he indulges his tennis ball fetish.

Hide-A-Squirrel: A plush tree stump with pockets for squirrels to hide out in. This brainteaser prompts dogs who need to watch their figures to dig out squirrels, not kibble. Also available: Hide-A-Bee and Hide-A-Bird.

Chuckit Ball Launcher: A solution for those embarrassing (for you) and unsatisfying (for your dog) throws that land five feet away.

Dog Frisbee: Get the cloth kind made for dogs, with padded edges, because it's much easier on his soft mouth.

Warning for serious chewers: If your dog can practically chew through steel, stick with hardier toys such as the Black Kong for Power Chewers. And supervise, supervise, supervise; no toy is completely chew-proof.

Keep her on a leash at all times and keep exposing her to other dogs and people while you remain in control. DON'T GIVE UP!” — clhaugen, Jun 21 2008

We've rescued a smart, head strong bitch of 2 years of age who is great with strangers and kids, but seems to be aggressive with strange dogs, responding with hackles and energetic, nervous pacing. She does well after a while, but occasionally growls. We've taken her to the dog park many times, but afraid that if she feels threatened she will fight back. I'm quite sure she had a lot of isolation while young. Any other suggestions?” — runners88, May 04 2008
