Define smart dog?

QUESTION: How would you define a "smart dog"?

answered by Jean Donaldson

ANSWER:

I come from a training background, so I personally think that the rate at which a dog learns is directly related to how smart he is: If he learns fast, he's a pretty smart pup. But many people (who are not "all about the training") feel problem-solving ability is a better barometer of brains.
