Video: Golden Retriever Is Too Sleepy To Get Out of His Crate That He Accidentally Opened

Some dogs live for adventure. Others? They live for a good nap. This golden boy is firmly in the latter camp, proving that sometimes, comfort wins hands down. With their easygoing nature and fondness for cozy spots, Golden Retrievers have a way of turning even the simplest moments into a snooze fest — and this sleepy video is all the proof you need. In this late-night clip, Maui is tucked snugly in his crate, blissfully unaware that his evening is about to take a hilarious turn.

Instagram video shows Golden Retriever puppy sleeping even after he opens the crate

The video has been quietly making waves on social media, racking up nearly 8,000 likes in just two days since it was posted. It opens with nighttime camera footage and the on-screen text: “POV: you forget to actually lock the crate before bed.” As Maui shifts in his sleep, the door swings open. In his imagined “dog voice,” the caption reads, “human forgot the lock…” However, instead of bolting for freedom, he pauses, stretches, and settles right back down, one fluffy leg dangling dramatically outside the crate — will he or won’t he try and sneak out of the crate?

Another cut shows him fully committed to his cozy sleep, the text playfully teasing, “whatever, I’m snoozin’.” A long, slow stretch later, he flops over again as if to say, “they’re lucky I’m lazy.” It’s a video that’s sure to brighten your day — funny, sweet, and oddly relatable for anyone who’s ever hit the snooze button instead of starting their morning.

Viewers couldn’t resist sharing their own stories. One person wrote, “When our dog was a puppy, we crate trained her… I swear I locked the crate, or maybe our (dog) is a magician.” Another, from a dog Instagram account, chimed in: “This happened to me too! My pawrents forgot to lock my crate and at my normal wake up time I went upstairs to get them up!” And a third said what all viewers think while watching the video: “Looks so warm and cuddly.”

Sometimes, the best laughs come from the smallest, sleepiest moments. And this puppy seemed “too concerned about his beauty sleep to be mischievous,” as the caption states.
