Hope for Paws, a Los Angeles based non-profit animal rescue, got a call about a sick and possibly injured Pit Bull that was homeless and living in an industrial area.
Hope for Paws Founder Eldad Hagar and volunteer Lisa Chiarelli arrived on scene to find the sick, dog lying on blankets in a makeshift shelter. She was so sweet and docile and looked happy just to have some company. She eagerly accepted a cheeseburger that Chiarelli offered.
It did not go unnoticed that the dog was lying down and making no attempt to get to her feet.
They gave her a visual inspection and noticed a cut on the inside of one of her legs. This poor canine was just wasting away among blankets and trash and had become too sick to walk.
Because of her gentle demeanor and poor condition they got a leash quickly, then gently picked her up to take her to get her some much needed medical care. She made no attempt to fight or flee from the help that was being offered.
Just then a man peddled up on a bike and said that he and a friend had been feeding the disabled dog for weeks. Hagar thanked him and assured him that the sick pup was in good hands.
While bathing her, Chiarelli christened her with name Penelope. A nice bath, a new name, a new life.
