Orijen: Has the Dog Food Brand Issued a Recall in 2024?

Worries about dog food safety are high due to recent industry recalls. Many familiar brands voluntarily recalled products in 2024 due to possible contamination concerns. This has naturally led pet owners to wonder about the popular Orijen dog food brand – has it ever faced a recall? Let’s find out.

Has Orijen recalled its dog food in 2024?

If you feed your dog Orijen dry food then you have nothing to worry about. Their food hasn’t been recalled in 2024. Additionally, there are no reports of recent illnesses linked to their products. So, you can feel confident in feeding your pup Orijen dry food with the knowledge that it comes from a reliable brand.

However, it’s always a good idea to stay informed. Not all recalls get major headlines. To stay on top of the latest dog food recalls in 2024, check the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website.

When was the last Orijen dog food recall?

Orijen dry dog food boasts a perfect safety record with no recalls to date, giving pet parents peace of mind.

However, the dog food brand was the subject of an FDA investigation in 2019. The FDA investigated 16 brands (including Orijen) in more than 500 reports that claimed their dog food may be causing dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs. Nevertheless, it was never proven that Orijen’s dry dog food causes canine heart disease.

Orijen dog food starts with chicken and turkey as its primary ingredients, but remember most of their weight is water. Cooking removes that moisture, lowering the meat content. Fish is the next ingredient, which is also high in water weight. While all these are good ingredients, they shrink after processing.

However, the next two main ingredients – chicken liver and giblets – are nutrient-rich organ meats, mimicking a dog’s natural diet. Though unusual to us, these offer valuable nutrition for your pup.

The Orijen product line boasts above-average protein and fat levels, along with below-average carbohydrate content compared to standard dry dog foods. Hence, overall, it is an above-average dry food for dogs.
