Shelter Dog With a Painful Past Gets the News She’s Been Waiting For

That little sticker on Marigold’s kennel door says almost everything she has been waiting to hear: “I’m adopted.” The 3-year-old shelter dog immediately starts wagging her tail when a volunteer puts it up. And then she practically races out of the kennel area to meet the family waiting for her.

In the video shared by @humanebroward, Marigold gets a new bandana, a bag of goodies, and plenty of excited sniffs before she reaches her new parents. The girl who spent much of her life being used for breeding is suddenly surrounded by hugs, kisses, and people who came to take her home.

Marigold seems to understand something good is happening the second that “I’m adopted” sticker goes onto her kennel. She stands behind the glass, tail wagging at the volunteer, then heads out on leash with plenty of speed. There is no lingering around the kennel area.

Marigold trots down the shelter hallway toward her new family, stopping long enough to get a fresh bandana and sniff the bag of goodies being carried alongside her. She even stretches up toward the kibble for a closer look. And that’s when she meets her parents in the happy video.

One of them wraps her in a big hug, and the furry baby responds with plenty of excitement, including an attempt to lick her new human’s face. Her parents keep petting her while she stands between them, looking completely at ease. Soon, she is heading through the shelter doors again. This time, though, she is not going back inside. Marigold climbs into the back seat of the car with her new family.

Her past makes the moment even sweeter. According to the Humane Society of Broward County, Marigold had been overlooked at a rural shelter and had spent much of her life being used for breeding. Through all of that, she remained gentle and affectionate.

The video has received more than 4,600 likes, and viewers are clearly thrilled for her. One person said she “could not get out of there fast enough,” while another wished her a wonderful new life.
