Senior Shelter Dog Proves His Bright Spirit Is Too Big for Kennel Walls but Not a Home

Senior rescue dog Tyko is still waiting for his second chance at North Central Animal Shelter in Los Angeles. A video shared by @foster_and_found introduces the 9-year-old pup, whose gray face and cheerful energy haven’t faded despite his difficult circumstances. Tyko was picked up as a stray in June, and although he may have once had an owner, the post said no one ever came forward to reclaim him.

Senior shelter dog is ‘full of life’ but time in the kennel is taking a toll

The video begins by asking why 9-year-old Tyko is still waiting for a home. It then shows him walking through a cold shelter hallway, while the on-screen text says he should not spend his golden years there. Outside, his mood changes. Tyko runs across the turf, plays fetch, takes treats gently, and sits when asked. He also knows some basic commands.

The caption described Tyko as “living proof that age is just a number.” It added that the 53-pound male still has pep in his step and wants affection after playtime. Volunteers adore him, but the post made clear that a kennel is no place for a senior.

The harder part comes when the post explains what shelter life has done to him. Tyko is losing weight, even with extra feedings. He was recently treated for a URI and vomiting. Vet staff are monitoring him. He has a good appetite and seems in good spirits, but he needs a home where someone can continue caring for him.

The video also says his “sweet sugar face has so much love to give.” The post asked people to DM to foster or adopt, pledge, and share. His ID is A2280036. The Shelter dog is listed at North Central Animal Shelter, 3201 Lacy Street, Los Angeles.

Viewers quickly rooted for him. One person wrote, “He’s going to make someone so happy when he gets adopted.” Another said, “Love this guy!! He’s so incredibly sweet & a spunky senior!” A third pleaded, “Someone please step up for this innocent face.” Another added, “Rooting for you, sweet Tyko ❤️”
