Oldest Shelter Dog Was Dumped in Extreme Heat & Then His World Fell Apart Again

Travis, a five-year-old Siberian Husky and German Shepherd mix, has already faced abandonment, extreme heat, and the loss of a dog he befriended at the shelter. Now, the shelter dog with blue and brown eyes is waiting for someone to look beyond his hardships and give him the loving home he deserves.

According to the rescue post, Travis’s owner abandoned him and left him in 110-degree heat in Avenal, California. He later ended up at a small rural shelter that gets very few visitors. Despite everything he has been through, Travis remains gentle and affectionate.

The rescue says he wants someone to lean against, cuddle with, and give him plenty of attention. His striking appearance also makes him hard to miss. Travis has one blue eye and one brown eye, giving him an especially distinctive look.

The pup found some comfort at the shelter when he formed a close bond with another dog named Charlie. The two quickly became best friends, giving Travis company while he waited for a family of his own. Sadly, Charlie suddenly died from a blood clot, leaving Travis to face another painful loss.

The rescue says Travis has suffered many heartbreaks, but he still shows people how loving and sweet he can be. “He remains the sweetest, gentlest, kindest boy of all time,” the post says. Travis reportedly gets along well with other dogs and has also passed his cat test, staying calm around cats.

The biggest challenge may be finding the right person for Travis. His shelter is in a rural area, so his future adopter may never walk through the doors. The rescue is asking people to share the dog’s story and help find him an adopter or foster family. It says they can arrange transportation even if his future family lives hours away or in another state. The message says: “Travis is worth the effort.”
