Dog’s Furry Best Friend Is Gone, but She Still Stops on Walks to Make Sure She’s Coming

For years, Jam had Marmalade beside her on walks, at home, and in the garden. Since the family lost their 14-year-old Labrador in May, the Corgi has started stopping during walks and looking back for her.

The video shared by @corgis_of_eton_ brings those old memories into view, showing Marmalade in her younger days with Jam before returning to the walks they now take without her. Again and again, Jam pauses and checks behind her, as if expecting her old friend to catch up. The sweet dog waits for her late furry friend, even when there is no one there to follow.

The video first goes back to Marmalade’s final months. She is shown walking slowly through a field, still wagging her tail as she comes toward her person. Another clip shows the senior dog at home, moving carefully while the Corgis stay close. Text explains that her decline happened over a single weekend and came as a shock to the family.

There are happier memories, too. One older clip shows a much younger Marmalade playing with puppy Jam in a pen. The two clearly adored each other, and Jam grew up with Marmalade as part of her everyday life. Now, though, the walks look different.

Jam is running through a field with the other Corgis when she suddenly stops. She turns around and waits for a moment before continuing. On another walk, the pup falls behind the others and looks back again, as though expecting her late dog friend to appear further down the path.

Sometimes she waits longer. The video shows Jam standing on a dirt trail while the other dogs continue ahead. She eventually catches up, only to stop and look behind her again. The post explains that these walks had become difficult to watch because Jam was no longer finding them relaxing. She was missing her old companion and, at times, seemed increasingly sad.

The video has received more than 118,000 likes in one day. The final shot shows Jam cuddled up with her human as the message reads, “So we made a decision…” The decision itself is not revealed yet, leaving viewers waiting to find out what comes next for this grieving little Corgi.
