A video on Instagram shows a toddler who has found a perfectly comfortable place to sit, and a Pit Bull named Gideon seems happy to let him stay there. For a moment, it really does look like Gideon is patiently babysitting while the little boy watches TV. Then Gideon notices one very important detail: there’s a cracker in the baby’s hand. In the video shared by @janey_64, Gideon keeps his head close to the toddler, looking far more interested in snack time than whatever is playing on the screen. The baby notices too, and suddenly the two have a silent disagreement over who the cracker belongs to.
Dog appears to babysit the baby but is actually focused on the cracker in his hand
The video begins with Gideon looking like the world’s most relaxed babysitter. The toddler sits between his front paws and leans back against him while the dog stays right where he is. He even yawns before settling his head beside the little boy. Then something catches his attention.
Gideon spots the cracker and slowly turns his head toward it. The toddler immediately notices and starts watching Gideon instead, apparently realizing that his snack has become the main attraction in the room. Still, Gideon does not try to grab it. He simply keeps his face nearby, staring at the cracker with impressive concentration. When the baby moves his head away, Gideon moves it right back into position, making sure he has not lost sight of the important business.
The toddler tries again to get some distance between his snack and the dog, while Gideon keeps watching. Eventually, the baby looks over, sees Gideon looking elsewhere, and takes the opportunity to eat his cracker. Mom can only laugh as the whole little negotiation plays out.
That is what makes the clip so funny. The dog babysits the baby beautifully, but apparently there is a snack-related condition attached to the arrangement. With more than 5,600 likes, the sweet little scene clearly gave viewers a reason to stop scrolling. Commenters had plenty to say about the situation, with one calling Gideon a “Nanny dog performing his duty.”
