Shelter Dogs Were Once ‘Loyal Companions,’ but Are Now Stuck in the Kennel

Just a few hours earlier, Prince and Princessa had a family, but they were unaware that their lives were about to change completely. This emotional video shared by @ahsnewark introduces the two shelter dogs on the very day they lost the only home they’d ever known. Both 4-year-old German Shepherds had spent their lives as family pets, even growing up alongside children. Now they’re learning what a kennel sounds like instead. It’s a difficult adjustment, but the hope is that someone will see this video and give them the fresh start they deserve.

Two companions go from family pets to being shelter dogs after surrender

The video begins outside the shelter as staff members walk Prince and Princessa along the sidewalk after their arrival. The voice-over explains that the pair had just been surrendered after arriving in the bed of a pickup truck because their family no longer had enough time for them. Even so, both dogs stay close to the volunteers, sniffing around and checking in as they explore their unfamiliar surroundings.

Next, the camera lingers on their kennel cards before following them outside again. According to the narration, Prince and Princessa had spent all four years of their lives as loyal family companions, sharing a home with children, before everything changed in a single day.

Despite the confusion, neither dog has lost their gentle nature. They walk nicely on leash, accept treats with soft mouths, and lean into every head pat and ear scratch they receive. Like many German Shepherds, they seem happiest when they’re close to people.

The video closes with a simple plea to give Prince and Princessa a second chance. In just over half a day, the post has already earned more than 2,000 likes, with viewers calling them “beautiful dogs” and hoping they’ll soon find families ready to love them for life. For now, these two former companions are waiting together, hoping the next car that pulls up brings someone who won’t let them down.
