For nine years, whenever Luna heard a car pull in or a gate open, it meant someone she loved was home. These days, she still looks toward every sound, only now she’s waiting in a different place. This video, uploaded by @massomberry, follows a shelter dog who was abandoned by the humans she’d trusted her whole life. The American Bulldog is currently safe in a temporary foster home. But every glance toward a doorway makes it clear she’s still hoping life will make sense again.
Shelter dog abandoned by the humans she grew up with, searches for the same love again
The video begins with old photos and clips of Luna at the home where she spent nearly her entire life. One message reads, “This was me,” before adding, “All but a memory now.” Other captions explain that she grew up with her family and loved them wholly. And so, watching what eventually becomes of her is even harder.
The scene then shifts to the present. Luna wanders around a yard, lifting her head whenever she hears something outside the fence. More than once, she trots over to look through the mesh as if she’s expecting familiar faces to appear. Another caption says she still searches everywhere for her family, while another heartbreakingly reads, “Luna doesn’t know her mom is never coming back.”
All is not lost, though, as we learn that Luna is currently at a temporary foster home. Here at least, she finally gets a soft bed instead of a kennel floor. Later, her foster mom gives her a bath in the yard. And Luna patiently stands through the whole thing before settling back onto her bed, clean and comfortable. But she still looks so sad and confused at her fate.
According to the caption, Luna is affectionate, walks beautifully on a leash, is fully house-trained, and spent years living alongside children, another small dog, and even neighborhood cats without trouble. Hundreds of viewers have already shared her story, with one calling her “the sweetest soul” while another hoped the senior dog soon finds the family she truly deserves.
