Shelter Dog Abandoned at 11 Years Slowly Loses His Spark as Days Pass By

A post from @tailwagteam introduces the 11-year-old shelter dog Jamie, who was abandoned by his owner and brought to safety last winter. Back then, volunteers say he was still goofy, friendly, and eager to enjoy every chance he got to be outside. Months have passed, though, and that long wait is starting to show. Watching an older dog slowly lose interest in the little things is difficult, which is exactly why so many people are hoping Jamie’s story finally reaches the person meant for him.

Shelter dog abandoned as a senior isn’t the same anymore as he awaits adoption

The video opens with Jamie lying listlessly inside his kennel. He barely lifts his head when a volunteer stops by to film him. On-screen text explains that he was surrendered by his owner and later brought to the shelter through Animal Control. At 11 years old, that’s a huge change for any dog.

The next clips take us back to brighter days. Jamie rolls around happily in the grass, enjoying his time outside and looking every bit like the playful senior volunteers remember. Then the video returns to the present, and the difference is hard to miss. He’s back inside his kennel with a toy nearby and even a treat waiting on the floor, but neither seems to interest him. He glances toward the volunteer for a moment, looks away again, and slowly rests his chin on the ground.

The caption explains that Jamie is still wonderfully friendly with people and has plenty of personality. He’s also got a stubborn streak that makes volunteers smile, especially on walks when he decides he’d rather head in his own direction. They believe he’d be happiest as the only pet in a home where he can enjoy all the love and attention for himself.

The post has already gathered hundreds of likes, with viewers hoping Jamie gets the second chance he’s been waiting for. One commenter wrote that senior dogs make the very best companions, while another said they were praying he’d find either a foster or an adopter soon.
