A recent video by @axelfosters shows us clips of a sweet shelter dog named Massimo at Broward County Animal Care. Massimo walked into the shelter on January 2 expecting a fresh start. Months later, he’s now the shelter’s longest-staying resident. Someone makes time to visit him every weekday, and Massimo still greets those visits with a wagging tail. Maybe one of these days, it’ll be the person who’s come to take him home.
Shelter dog arrived at the kennel in the new year and has become the ‘longest resident’
The first clip shows Massimo waiting behind his kennel door until someone finally stops in front of him. He keeps his eyes on the volunteer the whole time, clearly hoping for a few moments together before heading outside for his favorite part of the day.
The video then follows the shelter dog as he enjoys his time outdoors. Giving Massimo a tennis ball instantly turns him into a different dog. Afterwards, he cools off in a bone-shaped tub filled with water, lounges in the sunshine, and even takes a few goofy sips while relaxing. Later, he catches a tossed treat with impressive focus before happily standing beside the volunteer who scratches his head. There’s also a shot of him flaunting cool sunglasses.
However, the post says Massimo hasn’t had a single meet-and-greet. His head and legs still show old scars from a past nobody fully knows, yet he continues to welcome volunteers every chance he gets. The shelter staff believes Massimo simply needs someone patient enough to let him settle in at his own pace.
Hundreds of people have already watched the video of this cute shelter dog, and the comments quickly filled with encouragement for Massimo. Some viewers said they wished they had room to adopt him, while others encouraged everyone to keep sharing his story.
