Spending nearly two straight years inside a rescue kennel can dampen the spirit of any young pup. A moving Instagram video from @adoptmiamipaws introduces us to a gorgeous shelter dog named Zeus sitting by his wire-mesh door. He has officially clocked 643 days at the Miami-Dade Pet Adoption Center down in Florida. And even though he is wearing a bright red and green bandana, his eyes are full of sadness as he waits for someone to notice him.
Shelter dog longs for a forever home after waiting for 643 days
The clip shows Zeus sitting right up against the metal mesh gate, looking out. He makes quick eye contact with the camera before looking away with an incredibly unsure expression. A slight reflection on the metal door reveals another person walking into the room. Zeus quickly tracks them with his eyes, but he immediately looks back down when they pass by. He just continues to sit there, looking completely deflated, while the busy facility moves around him.
Zeus basically grew up in this facility, spending almost every single day confined to his small space. Volunteers describe this shelter dog as a friendly, playful, and incredibly loving boy who deserves a break. He does really well with female dogs, though the staff recommends an official introduction at the shelter first. He prefers a home without other male dogs, which is totally fine for a pup with this much love to give. The team notes in the caption that long-term rescues need real patience to decompress using the standard 3-3-3 rule.
Over a thousand people have already liked the shelter dog’s video to help him find a real home. The comments are full of supporters sending prayers and calling him a beautiful soulmate for the right family. Local helpers are actively seeking an adopter or foster who can give him a second chance.
The post lists the Miami-Dade Animal Services facility on NW 79th Avenue in Doral for anyone who can visit.
