Six years as a loyal family pet should mean you never see the inside of a shelter kennel. Yet a heartbreaking video from @humanebroward shows this unfortunate reality: a family’s life changed, and they simply did not have time for their pet dog. In the video, we meet Grey, a gentle six-year-old pup, who spends her days frozen on her kennel bed after being dumped by her family. The shelter dog stays so quiet and unsure that visitors walk right past her glass door without ever realizing she is there. The staff actually labeled her as their most nervous resident.
Shelter dog waits for a loving home to be adopted into after family dumps her
The clip opens with a volunteer moving up to the glass while Grey stays glued to her bedding. On-screen text explains that she is too afraid to leave her safe spot. She watches people walk by, her eyes tracking them before she looks back at the camera, totally confused. It is clear she wants to understand why she is here.
The caption, however, tells us that once this shelter dog realizes someone is a friend, her real personality shines. She loves going for walks, playing with rope toys, and digging little holes in the dirt. Volunteers also describe her as a friendly, gentle girl who is incredibly easy to spend time with. One helper shared that after sitting together for a few minutes, Grey started wagging her tail and waiting for a walk.
Her back legs do have a slipping kneecap condition called a luxating patella, along with early arthritis. Even with those health hurdles, she gets around well and just needs a patient family who won’t give up on her. She is already great with children and other dogs.
Over 11,000 people have already liked her story online. The comments quickly filled with people hurting for Grey and wishing they could take her home. To make her search easier, Subaru of Pembroke Pines has generously covered her adoption fee in full. She will even go home with a pile of free goodies. All she needs now is someone to commit to her like she is ready to do, too.
