Parents usually spend months picking out high-tech baby monitors just to keep a constant eye on a newborn. But one family found that their pet dog does the job extremely well, completely for free. A viral Instagram video posted by @drexroscoe features a giant Bernese Mountain Dog stepping up for full-time guard duty. This gentle big dog absolutely refuses to let his new little baby brother out of his sight for even a second. He watches the infant sleep and follows his parents around the living room all day.
Big dog never lets little baby out of his sight like it’s his job to protect him
The video starts with the newborn resting inside his bassinet. On-screen text reads, “First day as a big brother.” Then the camera pans over to show Dak lounging on the nearby couch. He is resting his massive head on a fluffy blanket and staring directly at the infant with pure love. Next, his mom is relaxing on the sofa while holding the infant, and Dak stands right behind the furniture. Even here, he has decided to rest his face over the backrest next to his mom’s cheek.
He just wants to be as close to the action (read: baby) as possible. Then, the video shows his dad walking across the living room while cradling the newborn. Dak follows closely behind him. He even wags his tail immediately when his dad turns around. Moreover, he keeps his eyes glued to the baby the entire time.
Later, his dad sits down on the couch. Dak leans in to sniff the infant’s head very gently. This fluffy big dog is totally enamored with the tiny scent of his new little baby brother. His dad even lowers his arms in another shot so the pup can get one more good sniff.
Dak eventually rests his face on his dad’s lap and quietly watches him kiss the newborn’s tiny hand. The big dog is the sweetest older brother to the little baby, and his parents, Drex and Izzy, are already thrilled about the bond. The beautiful clip has gathered over 9.7K likes from an emotional online community. Multiple comments noted that the two are destined to be best friends forever.
