Golden has every reason to be wary of people. The neglected dog spent years with little human contact, leaving him fearful of strangers and uncertain about the world around him. But as rescuers recently discovered, fear and affection can exist side by side. This is especially when a dog is finally given the chance to feel safe. Their video documents his transformation from a frightened animal into one beginning to trust again.
Staci, who posts under the username @stacifosters on Instagram, regularly uses her platform to highlight dogs in need of help. Her latest post focuses on Golden, whose fear of humans has made his road to recovery more complicated than most.
Human takes neglected dog to the vet and urges for someone to adopt him
The video opens with footage of the dog barking at those attempting to help him while remaining on a leash. His body language makes it clear that he is anxious and uncertain about the situation unfolding around him.
Despite his fear, rescuers were determined to get him the care he needed. The video follows Golden as they take him to a veterinary clinic for evaluation and treatment. Staci explained through onscreen text that the team moved carefully throughout the process.
One clip shows Golden sitting in the waiting room, quietly observing his surroundings. Rescuers gave him space to become familiar with the people around him and adjust to the unfamiliar environment. As time passed, Golden began to show signs that he was letting his guard down.
The dog who initially barked at everyone around him slowly started accepting the presence of his rescuers. Eventually, he formed a connection with Staci and allowed her to pet him. After earning enough of his trust, veterinary staff were able to proceed with necessary medical care. Golden was safely muzzled and sedated before the veterinary team administered his vaccinations and neutered him. By the end of the video, he rests in a crate while recovering. He looks calmer and healthier than he did at the start of the journey.
While his condition has improved, Golden’s future remains uncertain. In the caption accompanying the post, Staci explained that Golden’s owner has agreed to surrender him. However, before he can move on to the next chapter of his life, rescuers need to find either a rescue organization or an experienced adopter willing to work with him. She added that Golden will need “a lot of patience, understanding and training” as he continues building confidence around people.
