Story About Deaf Dog Without a Friend Gets the Most Unexpected Ending

Poundcake only wanted someone who understood how he played. In a heartfelt Instagram video, the hearing-impaired pup’s family shares how he struggled to connect with other dogs because he could not hear them. The reel, posted by @make.life.happen, follows his lonely days at the dog park, his bond with the dog next door, and the family’s decision to rescue Milkshake. What begins sadly turns into a three-dog friendship story.

Deaf dog looking for a friend gets not one but two companions

The video was shared by @make.life.happen, the page for Poundcake and Milkshake. Its bio says the community shares rescue stories, kindness, and impact. The caption said there was never anything wrong with Poundcake, and that he “just needed a chance.” The reel begins with text saying, “Our deaf dog wanted a friend to play with.” It explains that he could not hear other dogs, got left behind at dog parks, and his family tried their best. Another scene shows Poundcake in a closet as the text says they just wanted him to have a friend.

Then the story changes. Poundcake spots the dog next door, and the reel says, “and the story begins.” Soon, Poundcake and Dunkin are shown running outside together. The on-screen text says, “A friendship was born,” before adding that the two “had a blast.” But the joy turns emotional when Dunkin appears to be moving away. Poundcake looks for him from the window, and the text says, “This couldn’t be the end.” His family knew they had to do something.

The next part shows them driving through the night because another deaf dog 500 miles away needed a home. They adopted Milkshake, and the reel closes with Poundcake, Milkshake, and another dog together at the door. The caption said Poundcake and Milkshake communicate with sign language and love playing with hearing dogs, too.

Fans were deeply moved in the comments. One wrote, “Who’s cutting onions ???.” Another added, “hopefully seeing dunkin shortly for a little play date follow along.” A third said, “Ok now make this into 2hr long movie, I would gladly buy ticket to watch it.” Others wrote, “I’m so glad Dunkin comes to visit,” and “so happy also Dunkin come to visit Poundcake.”
