Having more than one dog in a household can often benefit both the pets and their owners. A recent video featuring a big dog meeting a little puppy highlights how quickly strong bonds can form between canine companions. The clip, shared by @hectorthechocolabo, follows a dog named Hector as he meets the family’s newest addition, a puppy named Woody.
Big dog meets little puppy and starts treating him like his own baby
The video begins with Hector’s owners revealing that they had a secret. After months of waiting, the family was finally ready to welcome a new member into their home. The text displayed on the screen explains that it was time for Hector to meet his “new baby.”
When the moment arrives, Hector’s reaction is immediate. The chocolate Labrador approaches the puppy with an enthusiastic wagging tail, carefully sniffing him and taking in the new arrival. While some dogs can be cautious around unfamiliar animals, Hector seems excited from the start.
The puppy is later formally introduced in a clip showing him peeking out from a basket. “Everybody please meet… Baby Woody,” the text reads, giving viewers their first proper look at the young Labrador.
According to the owners, Hector has embraced life as an older brother from day one. The video explains that he has “loved being a big brother” and that it seems as though he has always wanted a younger sibling. Rather than competing for attention, Hector appears focused on staying close to Woody and including him in daily activities.
That side of Hector’s personality becomes even more noticeable as Woody settles into his new home. Like many puppies, he is energetic and occasionally gets into mischief. However, Hector remains patient. Even when the younger dog is being “cheeky,” the older Labrador responds calmly, according to the video.
The family shared their thoughts about the new addition in the caption, writing, “Our family is now complete, after waiting what felt like an eternity for Woody, he’s now here and we are so in love with him.”
The owners also noted that the dogs are already “two peas in a pod.” They added that they can easily picture them becoming best friends as Woody grows. Based on their early interactions, the two dogs have already developed a close bond.
