‘Paralyzed’ Labrador’s Graduation Looks a Little Different

A graduation tassel usually marks the end of a school year. For Koda, it marks two years of therapy appointments, sling walks, hydro sessions, and a whole lot of hassle and starting over. In the video shared by @tahoegirlandherdog, Koda’s journey starts with the Labrador needing a sling just to move around. Some of the early clips are tough. Koda was paralyzed neck-down, and we see him lying still through treatments and needing help with even the simplest movements. And then Koda starts improving against all odds. Looking at all the clips back-to-back, it’s hard to believe they’re showing the same dog.

Labrador’s graduation is learning to walk again after paralysis

The video opens with Koda arriving for treatment, supported by a sling harness because he can’t walk on his own. On-screen text explains that everything changed on February 22, 2024, when paralysis suddenly became part of his life.

Right away, it becomes clear how much work was ahead of him. His belly and legs are shaved from medical procedures. He’s stretched out during therapy sessions. One clip shows him in a hydrotherapy tank, placing one foot down, then the other. But those tiny steps start adding up.

Then comes a milestone his mom clearly wasn’t expecting to celebrate so hard. Koda sits on his own, and his mom immediately leans in with an excited, “You did it!” The pup looks proud of himself, too.

The video doesn’t skip the hard days. There are scenes of him learning to move with a wheelchair and relying on support just to get around. Between all the appointments and exercises, Koda was still getting to be a dog. He chews sticks on forest trails. He lounges on a floatie at the lake, looking dapper in sunglasses and a life jacket

Slowly, but most steadily, things begin to change. Near the end of the video, the Labrador stands on the grass without a sling and takes a few wobbly steps forward. But nobody watching is worried about perfect form at that point.

Later, he’s walking outside again in the snow while the caption notes that he spent two years earning that walk. More than 44,000 people have watched Koda’s graduation and immediately headed to the comments to celebrate with him. You, too, can follow his journey on his Instagram page @kodawalksagain.
