Dog Happily Hops Into Her First Swim of 2026 & It’s Pure Joy

A sweet video from @june.frank1 on Instagram shows the moment a dog named Junie reaches the shoreline for her first swim of the year, and hops on the water’s surface as if she has never been happier. But before that, she slams the brakes, hoping her owners give her the green light. Excited to go in for a swim, the Aussie-Labrador-Collie mix freezes and whips her head around to look straight at her humans. Thankfully, her mom’s voice cuts through the hesitation, telling her, “Go on! Go on, Junie!” And just like that, permission granted, Junie excitedly and joyously goes in for 2026’s first swim.

Dog’s happy hops as she goes to enjoy first swim of 2026 is winning hearts

The owner captions the dog’s happy hops with, “junie’s first ‘swim’ of 2026!” Her dad laughs off-camera, noting Junie’s hesitation with, “She’s like, ‘Really? I can go?’” The dog twists after some happy hops to glance back again, as if double-checking the whole family is witnessing her adventure.

That over-the-shoulder check is an example of social referencing. Dogs, much like human toddlers, will look to their trusted people when they face something exciting but uncertain, reading facial expressions and vocal tones to gauge whether a situation is safe. Junie’s pause at the water’s edge is her saying, “Are we doing this together?” And the moment she hears her mom’s cheerful go-ahead, her brain lets her go, and her body visibly cannot contain the joy.

As for the hops, they are a physical celebration, and viewers could not get enough. One wrote, “She looks like she’s walking (or bouncing) on water!” while another perfectly captured the spirit with, “She’s a hap hap happy dog. Pure joy.” Meanwhile, a third viewer observed, “She waits for your permission. Such a good girl.”
