Owner Reveals Baby’s First Words To Be Dog’s Name

A child’s first word is often seen as a milestone that marks the beginning of meaningful communication. Many parents eagerly anticipate hearing “mama” or “dada,” expecting those familiar sounds to come first. Still, early speech can be shaped by a child’s surroundings in surprising ways. A recent video shared on Instagram shows just how unexpected that moment can be, as one mother discovered her baby’s first word wasn’t directed at a parent, but was instead the family dog’s name.

The clip, posted by @alba.thecocker, shows a quiet and affectionate interaction between the baby and the family’s English Cocker Spaniel, Alba. In the video, the baby sits close to the dog while feeding her small pieces of carrot. As the interaction continues, the child repeatedly says “Alba,” making it clear that the name is both familiar and easy for her to pronounce.

Rather than being a one-off moment, the repetition suggests that the baby had already formed a connection strong enough to recognize and say the dog’s name confidently. Alba, for her part, remains calm and gentle throughout, patiently taking the treats and staying close to the child.

The mother later reflected on the moment in the caption, writing that it was something she would “hold… in my heart forever.”

Several users shared their thoughts in the comments, celebrating the parenting and the bond between the child and the dog. One commenter wrote, “That is the result of strong parenting.” Another added, “She knows Alba loves her and has been caring for her since before she was born!”

Others reflected on their own experiences. “Yes you will. I remember this moment well myself. It’s such a blessing!” one person shared. Another comment summed up the relationship in a simple but affectionate way, writing, “That’s Alba’s baby.”
