When you’ve been the only baby in the family for 13 years, meeting a new addition is definitely an adjustment. Emily Brown (@mrs_emily_brown) recently shared the heart-melting moment her senior dog finally met her little baby. Tobi is a sweet Malchi (a Maltese and Chihuahua mix) who has ruled the house for over a decade.
According to her bio, Emily is a first-time mom raising her family in her childhood home. And now, she gets to watch her first “child” become a big brother. Tobi, for his part, seems incredibly curious about the newborn’s arrival.
Senior dog meets little baby and starts adjusting to his new role as big brother
The footage starts with Emily’s husband, Trevor, holding the sleeping newborn while they prepare for the big introduction. Tobi walks into the living room right away to investigate the new bundle while his mom films and greets him. In the next shot, we see Tobi sitting sweetly in Dad’s lap to get a better look inside the bassinet.
He stares at the tiny human and then looks back at his mom. Dad plants a big kiss on the pup’s head to reassure him that he is still loved. Things get even cuter once the little baby starts rolling around in her play tent. Tobi watches from the edge before deciding to go inside and check on her himself. He wags his tail while sniffing his new sister.
To be honest, this senior dog seems very smitten with what he finds. Emily asks him if they should keep her while he gives her a high five. He licks her hand and enjoys some well-deserved scritches for being such a good boy.
Adjusting to a sibling, however, takes time, especially when those late-night cries start happening. Emily admits that Tobi throws a side eye or two during the noisy moments at night. Overall, he is already a protective and gentle companion.
Nearly 4,000 people have already liked this sweet meet and greet online. One viewer mentioned that a baby will spark Tobi back into a young pup. He is proving that age is just a number when it comes to family love. This senior dog is definitely the best big brother for the little baby.
