Animal shelters are full of pets with unique personalities and appearances, each hoping to find the right family. While some dogs stand out for their elegance or training, others win hearts simply by being unapologetically themselves. That’s exactly the case with a shelter dog who has recently caught attention in a video for looking less like a typical pup and more like a “perfectly shaped potato.”
Shelter dog up for adoption looks like a potato and is still waiting for a home
The clip, posted by @4evertails in collaboration with @chicagocaninerescue, introduces viewers to a dog named Dreamboat. The video opens with a humorous line on screen: “This shelter dog was classified as a potato,” a description that quickly starts to make sense as the camera pans over to her.
Shelter volunteer Scott, who narrates the video, admits he’s surprised Dreamboat hasn’t been adopted yet. As he films her, Dreamboat is seen spinning in circles, hopping around, and generally enjoying herself. Her compact, stocky build gives her a round shape, prompting Scott to jokingly double down on the “potato” comparison. At one point, her paperwork is even shown, humorously labeling her as a “potato female dog,” which Scott calls her “true description.”
Despite the jokes, the video also shares important details about Dreamboat. She is around four years old and originally from Michigan. Another lady in the clip playfully suggests she could be called anything from a Bulldog to a “Potato Gargoyle,” even zooming in on her face to match the nickname. Through it all, Dreamboat remains energetic, darting around and showing off what her caretakers describe as an “elite turning radius.”
The shelter also addresses her recent health setback. Dreamboat had complications after her spay surgery when she reopened her incision, but she has since recovered well. Footage of her running at full speed reassures viewers that she is back to her active self.
Viewers quickly joined in on the fun in the comments. One person joked that she looked like a “loaded baked potato,” while another said they would name her “Russet.” Others were impressed by her energy, calling her the “fastest potato” they had ever seen. Some even imagined dressing her up for photoshoots, suggesting accessories like light-up wings or a tutu.
