Dogs are highly intelligent animals capable of learning a wide range of tricks and specialized tasks. Many owners take pride in teaching their pets unique skills, some practical, others purely for fun. Occasionally, though, those talents can fall somewhere between impressive and a little embarrassing. A recent Instagram video shows one owner introducing her service dog’s unusual trick, leaving viewers both amused and surprised.
Owner shares service dog’s ‘impressive but embarrassing’ trick of farting on command
The video, posted by Instagram user @embracingecho, introduces viewers to two dogs, Echo and Everest. The owner begins by warning that this might be the “most embarrassing video” she has ever shared. She explains that while the former is usually the one featured online for impressive and helpful tricks, the latter’s talents are a bit more unusual.
To set the contrast, she first demonstrates Echo’s abilities. When asked to fetch water, he walks over to the refrigerator, opens the door, and retrieves a bottle with ease. The smooth and practical task highlights the kind of trained behavior people typically expect from a service dog. Then the focus shifts to Everest. The owner prepares treats and explains that she has been pairing a cue word with what she humorously calls his “subterranean thunder claps.” Over time, Everest has learned to associate the phrase “thunder clap” with the action.
When she gives the command, Everest quickly delivers, producing a fart almost on cue. The moment leaves the owner laughing, though clearly a bit embarrassed by the demonstration. Despite her reaction, the trick works exactly as intended, showing just how responsive the dog is to training.
In the caption, the owner admits she may not showcase this ability again anytime soon. She jokes that while many dogs pass gas, not all of them do so on command. The pet parent also notes that Everest’s tendency to be “constantly full of gas” likely made it easier to reinforce the behavior during training.
Many viewers expressed disbelief at the unusual skill in the comments. One person wrote that it was genuinely “impressive” that the dog could perform the trick on command. Another joked that if their own dog had such an ability, they would “only use that for evil,” imagining the mischievous possibilities. A third user humorously described Everest’s attitude as being eager to help, as if responding, “How may I be of service?”
