Dogs Go Viral Because Their Eyes Match Each Other’s Fur

A sweet Instagram video from user @hunter.the.good.boy shows two dogs, Hunter and Freddy, with eyes matching each other’s fur. In the on-screen text, the owner wrote, “Someone said my dogs must be soulmates because their eyes match each other’s fur and I can’t unsee it.” Indeed, it is adorable how much of that is true.

Owner believes dogs are soulmates because of how their eyes and fur look

The video highlights the English Cocker Spaniels’ eyes matching with each other’s fur in a way that feels almost too perfect. Hunter’s warm-colored coat pairs with eyes that mirror Freddy’s darker fur, while Freddy’s lighter eyes pick up the caramel tone in Hunter’s coat. If you put them side by side, it looks like they were styled as a set.

In the caption, the video asked viewers to weigh in, asking, “Do you think we’re soulmates? ?”

Viewers in the comment section did not hesitate. One person wrote, “They do match!!!!!! That’s Beautiful!!!!!!!!!” while another added, “They’re both Nutella and Peanut Butter colored.” A third user called them “Ying and Yang,” while another comment gave credit to the original observation, writing, “I love how that person’s brain works.” Many viewers said, “Stoppppp, that’s the best” and “Wow,” because the resemblance really does jump out.

A few people even wondered whether the video had been edited, but the “eye-and-fur match” has a pretty normal explanation. Eye color and coat color both tie back to pigment, mainly melanin. Also, dogs can naturally have similar color families, including gold, brown, and amber, but just in different places. Lighting helps as well. Soft indoor light can make brown coats look more vibrant and amber eyes look brighter, making the pairing feel even more natural.

Still, the dogs do look like soulmates, even if the chatter started as a joke. Humans love patterns, and when two dogs look like they were made to match, it is hard not to romanticize the pair.
