Video: Dog Reviews Food by Just Tasting the Vapors From It

If you’ve ever tried cooking with your dog nearby, you know how invested they can get in the process. Every smell, sizzling sound, and movement seems to grab their attention. Even when there’s no actual food for them yet, they still want to be part of the experience. One Instagram video by user @loki_the_house_pony shows a dog taking things a step further by trying to sample food through the steam rising from a pot.

Dog is very invested in the vapors coming out of food being made in the kitchen

The video shows a Great Dane and Cane Corso mix standing attentively beside the kitchen stove while food cooks in a pot. As steam rises from the utensil, the dog stretches his neck toward the vapors and begins licking the air repeatedly, as if trying to capture the flavor floating above the pot.

Instead of waiting patiently for a proper bite, the dog appears completely satisfied, attempting to “taste” the steam itself. He sticks out his tongue, catching the vapor and smacking his lips as though he has just sampled something delicious. The moment becomes even funnier thanks to the on-screen caption that humorously narrates the dog’s thoughts. “Yes, delicious. I shall catch the tasty food vapors in my mouth. Wait where’d it go? I’ll try again,” it reads.

According to the owner’s caption, the dog’s behavior was both amusing and ironic. “‘Yes, he comes from two very smart breeds,’” she joked. “Meanwhile he’s over here trying to eat the steam from the pasta water.”

The video quickly caught viewers’ attention, many of whom shared their own jokes about the unusual-tasting technique. One commenter compared it to a dog version of flavored water, while another joked that the pup was enjoying a “fine dining experience.” Someone else chimed in saying they call moments like these “sky mlerms” in their kitchen, especially when pets try to catch food aromas drifting through the air.

Other viewers drew humorous comparisons to human habits. One person wrote that it reminded them of sparkling water flavors, calling it “LaCroix for dogs.” Another said the moment looked like someone tasting powdered sugar in the air while baking.
