This hilarious Instagram video from @officialzuko_ proves that nothing can stop a Labrador’s obsession with a stick. The clip shows a black Labrador named Zuko running down a snow-covered path the moment his owner gives him some freedom. Standing in the middle of the walkway, the owner explains, “I let Zuko off the leash, and he jetted that way — like, absolutely a goner.”
Labrador absolutely needs to find a stick on his walks
Seconds later in the video, the owner calls after the Labrador at full volume, and Zuko reappears from the far corner like he never left. However, this time around, he is proudly carrying a long stick. His owner cannot help but laugh as she points out, “He has a stick. Of course, he has a stick.”
Zooming in on Zuko’s face, the owner adds, “First off, wait, we have to talk about the stick, okay? I know you’re excited, but it’s about to take out your eye. It really is. We have to slow down with the stick,” pointing out that one sharp end sits a little too close to the Lab’s eye.
To his credit, Zuko listens to his owner. His owner asks him to drop it, and he does, earning a warm, “Thank you.” The woman then points toward the stick and remarks, “It is such a nice stick,” as if to offer the dog some consolation. The pair end up sitting together in the snow. In the end, the owner asks the dog, “Are you enjoying yourself in the middle of a blizzard?” before telling viewers, “I am freezing.”
Zuko’s behavior is typical of Labrador Retrievers. Retrievers were bred to carry things gently in their mouths. In deep snow, a stick also stands out as something familiar to grab and present back to their person. And as the caption says, “There’s always a stick to find… even in a blizzard.”
